Jehovah's Witnesses Knocking at my Front Door
by Richlist ini have jw's knocking on my door about 4 times a year.
they walk along the whole street knocking on all the properties trying to hand out leaflets about god.. i always engage them in conversation.
my street has a very large number of oap's who could really do with some extra help.....grass cutting, shopping, cleaning, help around the house, gardening, diy etc.. never once have i been able to persuade any jw's to do something worthwhile for these residents.. i'm left with the thought that jw's don't want to do anything really worthwhile for these people.......why ?.

Ugg. What to do? What to do?

Stick with the new job is there is room to move up you'll get same money within no time if things are as you say. Plus the added experience and set-up / design / programming know how will pay off for you in satisfaction and self confidence. Are you running swiss machines / screw machines or high speed cnc small parts turning machines ? At middle age we need challenges like this to keep us moving forward. We just bought our first turning center 2 years ago, Mazak QT8N with T+ love it.
Love how being out of 'the truth' enables me to focus on my shop and personal growth. Fellow JW's would look at any and every opportunity to belittle me on my 'secular' career and tell me you work to life not live to work. Yeah right..

When You See a JW Do You Get Flustered?

now i am quite comfortable and hope that they may say something to me..... does your blood pressure rise when you see a jw coming toward you?

Depends where I'm at and who it is but if any come to my door ( which I doubt as I'm DA'ed ) I look forward to getting right to the point and asking them awkward questions such as how many field service hours they have so far this month and how do they feel about having to report them to the WTBTS of PA Inc. Then to please show me in the Bible where it says why they have to. Hopefully this will lead or the subject matter of organization and a governing body where I can then show them a talk given by F. Franz given at a 1975 Gilead graduation disproving even the concept of one. All done with a smile and a handshake hehe.

Observations from an Ex-Elder Part 1
by doubtfull1799 ini was thinking about the fog model this morning, particularly about the "obligation" part.
my mind went back to the last elders school i went to.
one of the parts in the section on appointments was discussing how we should not place too high a bar (human standards) for brothers to try and jump over when we are considering them for appointment as a ministerial servant.

The information shared on both her Youtube videos has been confirmed to me by a friend that was in the same cong. as both her dad and myself. Again as mentioned previously her video's have the ring of truth and are consistent with her Dad's personality. I've never met the woman personally asides from travelling to an int. convention in the same bus. I have heard her bother give a talk and met most of her family. He was the type that liked to be in control and is a true Kool-Aid drinking company man that thoroughly enjoyed the status and position of eldership and PO for over a decade believing that the WT is God's earthy organization. That said he mellowed considerably with age and I must say I was fond of him. She did go to the police after trying to go through the congregation and being brushed off, ignored and given the go-around.

Self Brainwashing
by OnTheWayOut inso i would love to hear and make more comments here on how "self-brainwashing" is done in jehovah's witnesses and how it becomes a problem when trying to wake up our loved ones.leah remini was on bill maher's show on friday, feb. 17th.
she had some great comments about things said on her series about scientology.
one was how members are "self-brainwashing" because they spend some hours every day doing self-study.

Totally agree, being somewhat OCD I admit to trying to brainwash myself through listening to dramas in my car. Over and over again, that and real life experiences. I never really did 'get it' as one born in JW friend of mine put it. As previously mentioned in another thread I thought it was my lack of faith, knowledge, Holy spirit etc. As a convert at that point in my life I 'needed' it to be true. Suffered major cong. dissonance to the point of becoming severely depressed. Then I woke up. :-) Am now simply a Biblical Christian, works for me.

I'd like to add that although I never met Lynn personally aside from riding in the same bus as her to an international convention I know her family and her dad as an elder fairly well. EVERY SINGLE DETAIL she mentions rings true, from geographical locations to her parents behavior and actions. Even her mothers terse reply with her her back turned " Nope can't do that ! " belies this family and what I know of them. Her siblings are true company men in the organization except maybe for her youngest brother. And the dad really was gruff, power hungry and a bully of an elder. He enjoyed his status as CO of the congregation for over a decade if not two. I can also recount a renovation project he did for a brother that fell apart halfway through on account of his being personally under qualified . Is an unrelated incident that highlighted a character flaw of failure to admit being wrong. Him, his status and position always seemed to come first. I know he resigned being an elder due to age and health problems. I must say that despite his character flaws I was fond of him and looked up to him as a father figure. I'm very disappointed in all of this and if anything highlights the need to avoid following men. I'm so sorry this happened to sweet innocent little Lynn as a child but congradulate her for really trying to patch things up with her dad and get an apology so as to allow her to get close to her family again. Her dad let her down big time ! He left her no choice but to go public and move on with the rest of her life. Lynn comes across as a very honest person with integrity. I wish her and her family the best and do hope her dad will learn from this.

In Your Opinion Do Today's Elders Recognize That The Religion Is BS?
by minimus ini always wondered that while i was in especially when i was an elder.
i recognize that some people, elders included are brain-dead.
but do you think that the average older today knows it's all nonsense?

tor1500 good one on insecure men geting to boss women around in the org. I must admit one of the side benefits of coming into the org ( hehe pun there ) was the possibility of finding a cute Christian wife. Didn't happen I saw the org for what it was and how far removed they are from Christ's teachings. I did NOT want to be responsible for someone else's 'spiritual' wellbeing, in other words to act out being the spiritual head of the family the way WT puts it. No thanks I just loaded up my dirt bike and rode away.

LOL WTWIzard, I was daydreaming about doing that very same thing one day, but using the Accept song "Balls To The Wall" ! I was in charge of sound for a couple weeks before I got removed for doing a crappy job. Got caught dozing off and oogling a young woman's shapely rear end and thighs sitting in a chair just ahead of me, a sight to behold ! Was waiting for her to be dipped so as to make my moves, never happened she wised up and left before I did. Anyhow song cue came up and I was nowhere near ready, quick burst of panic and adrenalin haha ! Would be fun to hear on someone actually having the nerve to pull off a CD switch like that !

What if Fred Franz had never existed?
by Magnum inwhat if fred franz had never existed?.
those of you who weren’t around in the days when he was the oracle of jwdom or who at least aren’t familiar with the deeper publications he was responsible for probably won’t be able to comprehend the significance of the question.
i believe he influenced jwdom greatly, and the whole feel of jwdom would have been different without him.. during the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s (not sure about 50’s), he was considered to be almost superhuman by some (a lot?
